Many were in agreement about who they didn't want to win the show

Viewers of BBC's Destination X have taken to social media to express their dismay following the semi-final elimination of contestant Daren, with many declaring themselves "gutted" at his departure.

The contestant failed to secure his place in the final three after incorrectly selecting Paris as his location guess, when the actual destination was Monaco.

Social media erupted with disappointed reactions, as one viewer posted: "The people's hero has gone!"

Another fan wrote they were "so sad" about the outcome, whilst others described feeling devastated by the result.

"Gutted I tell you. Daren was my favourite, at least he can be with Jackie P. #DestinationX," another shared.

Many also united in their opposition to Josh winning the competition, with many issuing a plea.

One wrote: "Oh I'm gutted Daren's gone! Need Judith to win now, definitely not josh!! #DestinationX."

"Wanted Daren to win, but now either of the girls. Please, anyone but Josh #DestinationX," another added.

However, not all viewers sympathised with Daren's exit. Some pointed out his struggles throughout the series.

"Considering Daren had literally no idea, from day 1, where he was at any given time, he's done well to finish 4th #destinationx," one penned.

Another added: "Daren is a lovely man but has been one of the weakest players from the get go. He’s literally ‘survived’ his way through haha #DestinationX."

The semi-final challenge proved particularly brutal, with contestants required to identify their location based on a clue about the Mona Lisa painting.

Despite a stick-or-twist opportunity that allowed players to adjust their answers, Daren couldn't recover from his incorrect guess.

His departure proved highly emotional, as he struggled to speak whilst saying farewell.

"Well done Daren," fellow contestant Saskia said through tears. Fighting to control his emotions, Daren responded: "Listen, it's been a privilege to get to know you all."

The eliminated contestant concluded his goodbye with "Jackie P, here I come," before exiting to applause from the remaining finalists.

His exit leaves Josh, Saskia and Judith to compete for the £100,000 prize in tonight's final episode.

The three remaining contestants have each faced moments of near-elimination throughout their journey.

Josh revealed he "really had no idea" during the second challenge and survived by positioning his guess between two locations mentioned by other players.

Saskia recalled nearly being eliminated before the semi-final when she and Josh missed the Pisa clue entirely. "I was very grateful for him in that moment," she acknowledged about their collaboration to determine the bus's destination.

Judith admitted to feeling constantly at risk of elimination, stating she expected to leave "all the time, literally, most of the time in that map room." She approached each challenge individually, focusing solely on avoiding last place.

Tonight's final promises intense competition, with the BBC teasing that "not everything you see can be believed" during challenges across one of Europe's most recognisable cities.
