The actor behind Marlon has addressed his farewell from the show

Death in Paradise fan-favourite Tahj Miles, who played lovable Officer Marlon Pryce, has addressed his departure from the long-running BBC comedy-drama.

Marlon entered the fray back in season 10 as a young offender on the island of Saint Marie who's been on quite the transformative arc ever since.

Commissioner Selwyn Patterson (played by Don Warrington) decided the best punishment for Marlon was to integrate him into the Youth Offenders Police scheme and just three seasons later, he was a fully-fledged officer.

But with season 13 in full swing, the time came in Sunday's episode for Marlon to pack his bags.

He left his colleagues rather disappointed when he revealed he'd be leaving Saint Marie for Jamaica where his sister had bagged a scholarship.

A returning JP Hooper (Tobi Bakare) was on hand to provide some consolation to fans but before long, social media was awash with disgruntled fans expressing their dismay at having to see Marlon go.

Speaking out about his exit, actor Miles shared a snap of himself behind the scenes of the latest season.

"It’s been real people, Marlon out," Miles penned, followed by a love heart emoji.

What exactly lies ahead for the actor remains unclear, with his IMDb page showing no upcoming projects.

His exit left several "gutted" and some even in tears, including one X user who wrote on the social media site: "Going to miss seeing @TahjDMiles on screen so much! Marlon was just such an incredible addition and I'm sad he's left. #DeathInParadise."

A second echoed: "Oh s**t, Marlon left. God dammit. Love him and he had the best one liners. I'll miss him #deathinparadise."

"@TahjDMiles thank you being part of an amazing Series that is @deathinparadise absolutely gutted you have left #DeathInParadise," a third added.

And a fourth weighed in: "What an episode! Gutted Marlon has left. @TahjDMiles is a VERY talented actor and I hope his next adventure is just as successful as this one. Looking forward to seeing who will be taking his slot though, could Dwayne or Florence return?? #deathinparadise."

A fifth tearful fan penned: "Fully sobbing that marlon has left. #DeathinParadise."

And a sixth referenced Call the Midwife, which aired before Death in Paradise, after it too hinted at another key character's exit.

They wrote: "Still trying to cope with the Call the Midwife finale and straight into Death in Paradise!

"First they murder Guy Henry then tell us Marlon’s going , they bring back JP and shatter our hopes for Neville and Florence!

"What brilliant Sunday TV. #CallTheMidwife #DeathinParadise," they signed off. (sic)
