The property expert remembered her late co-star following his death in February

A Place in the Sun star Laura Hamilton has paid tribute to her late co-star Jonnie Irwin, who sadly died earlier this year following a cancer battle.

Hamilton, 41, was one of “the closest” co-stars of Irwin’s, 50, as the pair had worked together on the Channel 4 property hunt show for a long time.

Speaking exclusively to GB News, Hamilton reflected on how the A Place in the Sun team had been impacted by Irwin’s heartbreaking death.

“We are a family at A Place in the Sun, both for everyone in front and behind the camera,” she stated.

“And lots of us have worked together for years. So although we might not see each other all the time, we regularly do chat and we do message each other.

“We do keep up to date. I mean I'm flying out to Spain next week - I'm actually filming for the next couple of weeks - and I'm going to meet with Jasmine [Harman].

Last time I was in Spain, a couple of weeks ago I saw Jas and her family again – we are very close.

“Our kids hang out. So yeah, we are we are very close. Jas and I in particular obviously were sort of closest to Jonnie.

“So having done the show as long as we have… So yeah, we reminisce a lot.”

In February, Irwin's family released a statement announcing his tragic passing.

The statement posted on Jonnie's social media read: "In Loving Memory [star emoji]. It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of Jonnie’s passing.

"A truly remarkable soul, he fought bravely against cancer with unwavering strength and courage. Jonnie touched the lives of so many with his kindness, warmth, and infectious spirit.

"At this time, we kindly ask for the privacy of Jonnie’s family as they navigate through this profound loss.

"Their grief is immeasurable, and your thoughts, prayers, and support are deeply appreciated.

"As we remember the beautiful moments shared with Jonnie, let us celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy that will forever be etched in our hearts.

"Jonnie may be gone from our sight, but his love, laughter, and memories will live on.

"Rest in peace, dear Jonnie. You will be dearly missed, but never forgotten [dove and broken heart emoji]."

Irwin was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in 2020, and the disease soon spread to his brain. He was told in 2022 he had "just months to live".
