The Ukrainian leader met with His Majesty in Windsor Castle

President Zelensky has revealed that his wife, Olena, sent her warmest wishes to His Majesty King Charles ahead of Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer during a morning telephone conversation.

Speaking on Monday, the Ukrainian leader shared the lighthearted moment while discussing his deep affection for the British monarch.

"We have a very good relationship, you know. Today, in the morning, when I spoke by phone with my wife, with all respect to Keir [Starmer], but my wife said best regards to His Majesty first, of course, and then to the Prime Minister, of course. So of course, we, and Ukraine, love His Majesty," Mr Zelensky said.

The Ukrainian President disclosed his intention to extend an invitation to King Charles for a state visit to Ukraine, potentially as soon as this year.

Such a trip would represent a historic moment, with the monarch becoming the highest-ranking member of the Royal Family to travel to Kyiv since Russia launched its full-scale invasion.

However, Mr Zelensky acknowledged that security remains a significant concern.

"Today I want to invite him [the king] very much. I don't know from the point of security," he told the Guardian.

"Yes, of course, we want to see him in Ukraine very much. I don't know how it will be this year, if it's possible, but of course we want to see him."

Mr Zelensky described his bond with the King as particularly strong, having met him on multiple occasions throughout the conflict.

The monarch publicly demonstrated his solidarity with Ukraine following Mr Zelensky's contentious White House visit last year.

While the Ukrainian President confirmed that King Charles has maintained his backing for the country, he declined to elaborate on the specifics of that support.

"It's up to His Majesty to answer on such questions," he said.

Their relationship was further cemented in March last year when the King welcomed Mr Zelensky to Sandringham, his Norfolk residence, following the Ukrainian leader's difficult encounter with Donald Trump and JD Vance.

The pair initially met at Buckingham Palace in 2023.

Since the full-scale invasion began in 2022, only two working members of the Royal Family have travelled to Ukraine: Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, and Princess Anne.

Prince Harry, though no longer a working royal, has made three separate visits to the country.

His most recent trip came in September last year, during which he expressed his commitment to doing "everything possible" to assist the recovery of thousands of Ukrainian military personnel wounded in the conflict.
