The major storm has already claimed 12 lives and left thousands without power

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Montecito neighbourhood has been ordered to evacuate as a brutal downpour batters California.

Around 90 percent of the state is under flood watch according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Forecasters are warning that a "relentless parade of cyclones" will smash California over the next week.

Governor Gavin Newsom said regarding the storm: "We expect to see the worst of it still ahead of us."

He added: "Don't test fate."

Meanwhile Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown said the decision to evacuate was "based on the continuing high rate of rainfall with no indication that that is going to change before nightfall".

California resident and famous chat show host, Ellen DeGeneres said on the effects of the storm: "This is crazy!

"This creek next to our house never flows, ever.

"It's probably about nine feet up and is going to go another two feet up."

It is unclear if Meghan is currently in California. Last night Prince Harry was in New York to promote his bombshell autobiography Spare, which hits the shelves of bookstores today.

The Duke of Sussex used his memoirs to criticise several members of the Royal Family with his brother Prince William and his stepmother Camilla, suffering multiple digs.

However, new polling conducted between January 5-6 shows that Prince Harry's popularity has dropped in the UK following the release of extracts of his book.

Prince Harry's popularity has suffered since extracts of his autobiography have been published

The latest YouGov poll shows that just 26 percent of Britons have a positive view of Prince Harry.

This represents a seven-point drop in popularity for royal in around a month.

Sixty-four percent of Brits that were polled said they had a negative view of the Duke of Sussex.
