In today's GB News Daily Reflection on Pentecost, we remember how the coming of the Holy Spirit transformed the early followers of Jesus Christ.
It presented the Christian belief that God is not only above humanity or alongside it through Jesus, but can also dwell within believers through the Holy Spirit.
“This is the day when we remember the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit poured out on the early church, the earliest believers. As they gathered in the upper room, their lives were transformed.
“Our lives can be transformed, too, because this means big stuff for each one of us. It's easy, isn't it, really, to understand God as being above us.
“But I don't know about you, but what I really need is God on the inside, God in me, God in us. And that's the promise that Pentecost brings.
“Because on the day of Pentecost, in the book of Acts, we read that all the disciples were gathered in one place, a sound like the blowing of a mighty wind filled that room, and tongues of fire came to rest on each one of them. And we read that all of them were filled with the Holy Spirit.
“In other words, God the Spirit came to live on the inside of each and every one of them. And this is God's promise to you and me, to anyone who puts their trust and faith in Jesus, that we too can be filled, that we too can know God in us. So happy Pentecost Sunday!”
