Suella Braverman ISN'T racist - her ideas should be Government policy, says MICHAEL HEAVER

In this members-only article, GB News Community Editor Michael Heaver calls for the Tories to implement Suella Braverman's bold proposals for Britain
As ever, Home Secretary Suella Braverman is bang in touch with mainstream British public opinion.
Whilst some living in a lefty metropolitan bubble have convinced themselves that Braverman represents only fringe opinion in this country in fact it is her opponents who are out of touch.
In recent weeks Braverman - the driving force behind the controversial plan to deport failed asylum seekers to Rwanda - has branded pro-Palestinian protesters “hate marchers” and demanded tents be banned from British high streets.
She also complained that “Covid lockdown objectors were given no quarter by public order police yet Black Lives Matters demonstrators were enabled, allowed to break rules”.
But her views, often dismissed as extreme, are popular. Recent People Polling for GB News confirms this - following the Home Secretary’s warnings that multiculturalism has failed in the UK, the verdict from voters tells its own story.
Just 30 per cent of Brits believe that migrants are fully integrated into society.
Pollster Matthew Goodwin told GB News of the findings: “I think it’s really interesting if you look at what the commentators in London are saying, particularly after Suella Braverman’s recent comments that multiculturalism might not be working.
“We have this narrative in London particularly that this is an unalloyed success story but actually when we asked voters across the country do you think that migrants are integrating well into Britain only 30 per cent of people feel that immigrations are integrating well into the rest of the country.”
He added: “I think actually this is a watershed moment in our debate about immigration and integration because it is simply no longer plausible after the events of the last few weeks to argue that immigration and multiculturalism are only ever positive because clearly that is not the case and many voters out there feel the same way.”
So once again, Suella Braverman’s views - just as they are about the marchers and homeless - are far more reflective of what those in this country actually think than some would want you to believe.
Her opposition to mass migration and constant demands for the UK to leave the ECHR – as Rishi Sunak continues to fail in stopping the boats – are also sensible and again have massive public support.
What we also know, of course, is that both the Prime Minister and his party are struggling in the polls. Big time.
The latest polling for GB News gave Labour a colossal 28-point lead over the Conservatives, with Keir Starmer’s party consistently recording pretty large leads over the Tories.
As Professor Matt Goodwin explained, a huge number of Tory voters have now turned away from voting for the party again with around one in eight switching to backing Reform UK.
Perhaps if the Tories actually followed Suella's lead, instead of criticising her, their standing in the polls wouldn’t be so utterly dismal.
